IDI BEGI

Since the dawn of settled life, humans have lightened their labour with the help of animals. Proyecto Larrua adopts the perspective of an ox to shift the gaze through dance — questioning this domestic bond and evoking a rural world that is slowly disappearing.
In the Basque Country, Idi-Probak is a traditional practice in which oxen are used to drag heavy stones. Inspired by this custom, the dancers inhabit the body of the animal to explore the harshness of labour, the struggle for survival, the longing for freedom, and the ever-present, ambivalent connection between human and beast.
Guided by a soundscape that evokes the rural world, they offer a dreamlike vision of imaginary landscapes — a poetic echo of an age-old reality. Through moving bodies that shift between human and ox, a powerful question begins to surface: who is truly the human, and who is the animal?
